Slave Trade Heritage East on the Volta River

The fort was built by the Danes in 1784 and sold to the British in 1850. In the colonial era Fort Pridzenstein served as a prison.

It was used as a dungeon for slaves awaiting for transportation to the Caribbean. (Wikipedia)

It continued to be a prison until it was damaged by waves during a storm in 1980.
